Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė is sending a message of greetings, on behalf of the Government and the people of Lithuania, to Iceland on the Independence Day.
‘Lithuania’s and Iceland’s friendship is strong because it is rooted in shared ideals of liberty and democracy, common values, and shared responsibility for sustainable peace of the Euro-Atlantic area and beyond.
Lithuania highly appreciates the special emotional bond between our nations. Iceland’s strong support for the statehood of Lithuania will never be forgotten. It is an inspiring reminder of how much two nations can do together to protect and nurture those values that unite us and in which we take pride.
Iceland’s contribution to NATO’s presence in the Baltic region demonstrates the firm commitment of your country and the Alliance as a whole to defend our common values. I hope that important decisions on increasing the security of the eastern flank of the Alliance, on Ukraine’s future in NATO, and on defence investment will be made in NATO Summit in Vilnius in July’, reads Prime Minister’s letter.
