Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė is sending a message of greetings, on behalf of the Government and the people of Lithuania, to Azerbaijan celebrating their Independence Day.

‘I would like to express our readiness to further enhance our bilateral cooperation. Lithuania supports Azerbaijan’s closer relations with the EU and is looking forward to the successful completion of the negotiations on the new EU-Azerbaijan agreement, which would significantly assist in strengthening the ties among the European Union, its Member States, and Azerbaijan.

Today, as we witness the shocking and brutal Russia’s war against Ukraine, it is absolutely crucial for all European countries to unite in support of Ukraine’s efforts to defend its sovereignty and independence as well as the security of the whole region. We count on our close partners and allies to align with the EU actions, pressuring Russia to stop its aggression. It must be ensured that all perpetrators and accomplices of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Russia in Ukraine are held to account, including through the establishment of a Special International Tribunal to address the act of aggression.

Let me use this opportunity to wish peace and prosperity for the people of Azerbaijan and to express my sincere hope for a peaceful and lasting resolution to the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia’, reads Prime Minister’s message of greetings.
