On behalf of the people and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has extended congratulations to the people of Latvia celebrating the 99th anniversary of the Independence Day.

The Prime Minister notes the long-lasting ties that build on the principles of solid partnership and the fact that the following year, 2018, will be of remarkable importance to both countries because of the centennial of the independence of the states, and that inspired by the close neighbourhood, common historical experience and brotherly ties, the Baltic unity is getting ever stronger, and that the annual celebration of the Baltic Unity Day reflects the symbolic meaning of the communion of both nations.

“Today, we can be justly proud that Lithuania and Latvia have become very close partners of the international community, sharing common democratic values and goals in the European Union and NATO, as well as the regional security aspirations. I am convinced that these common goals and today’s challenges will further strengthen our partnership”, reads Prime Minister’s letter.
