On March 10, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė received Marshal of the Polish Sejm Elżbieta Witek at the Office of the Government, with whom she discussed the countries’ support for Ukraine, defending itself against Russian military aggression, and the importance of resilience to Russian aggresion and disinformation aimed at Western countries.

“The dialogue between Lithuania and Poland is based on a common approach on key issues for our countries and the region. We share the same concerns and challenges, and we are doing our utmost to ensure that Ukraine wins the war against the aggressor Russia. Even faster and more active democracies’ support for Ukraine until its victory is something that our countries will, I believe, pursue together with strong determination and unwavering commitment,” said Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė.

It is crucial that the decisions of the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius send an unequivocal message of unity and determination among the countries of the Euro-Atlantic Alliance, Head of the Government of Lithuania emphasized. According to Prime Minister, Russia’s actions prove its willingness to engage in a long-term confrontation with NATO, which obliges Alliance’s members to enhance their security.

The parties discussed Russia’s efforts to weaken the will of democracies to support Ukraine through intense disinformation, and noted the influence of Russian disinformation in other continents, where the aggressor country is denying its responsibility for launching the war and committing crimes in Ukraine, and for the outcomes of the war felt worldwide.

Despite the Russian attempts to mislead and distort Western societies, as Prime Minister Šimonytė noted, the continued determination of both Lithuanian and Polish citizens to continue to support the Ukrainians is encouraging.

At the meeting, Prime Minister noted the good and active bilateral relations between Lithuania and Poland as well as successful cooperation in NATO, the EU, the Lublin Triangle and other formats.
