Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has sent a message of greetings to Moldova on the Independence Day.

‘In the context of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, Moldova and its people have shown resilience and strength countering Russia’s malicious actions. Your nation has generously opened its doors to Ukrainians seeking refuge from Russia's outrageous war against Ukraine. At the same time, the Government of the Republic of Moldova has been constantly responding to the challenges for its own national security, while addressing mounting threats and hybrid pressures from Russia, including energy blackmail. Lithuania supports and will steadfastly continue to support Your country in withstanding these challenges.

I am genuinely optimistic that this year can become a significant milestone for Moldova’s European integration. Lithuania is a staunch supporter of beginning negotiations on Moldova’s membership in the EU this year. Amidst these challenging times, Your Government is making commendable effort to progress on the reform agenda and implement European Commission recommendations. Let me assure you that Moldova can count on Lithuania's wholehearted political support and readiness to further expand expert assistance on Moldova’s European integration path‘, reads the message of greetings by the Prime Minister.
