Prime Minister discusses modern slavery with the leader of the Order of Malta

On his visit to the Vatican, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis met with Lieutenant of the Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Fra Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio di Sanguinetto.
“The mission of the Order of Malta in Lithuania is invaluable, because it is very important for us to promote volunteering in the country. Your people show us that helping others and particularly those living in poverty is a noble and meaningful endevour. The cooperation of the Government with the Order is of particular significance as we strive towards social inclusion”, said the Head of Government.
According to the Prime Minister, the cooperation addresses not only the social problems within the country but also the challenges posed by migration.
The Prime Minister underlined the importance of humanitarian aid for Ukraine, noting Lithuania’s contribution in this regard. The head of the Order mentioned their efforts in this area in terms of material assistance and counselling offered to Ukrainians.
The interlocutors paid much attention to the initiative of the Order of Malta to combat human exploitation all over the world. The Prime Minister pointed out Lithuania’s readiness to contribute to it and assist the Order in taking this initiative further. The Prime Minister noted the fact that it occasionally happens for the Lithuanians to face the manifestations of contemporary slavery when outside the country.
