Today Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has met with member of the European Court of Auditors Rimantas Šadžius.

The Head of Government has thanked for the 2015 Annual Report on the EU’s budget implementation, and has expressed his satisfaction about the absence of remarks on Lithuania therein. Skvernelis said that he was delighted about the fact that the level of error, as indicated in the Report, had been going down for the second consecutive year.

The Prime Minister has expressed his hope that weaknesses, as pointed out in the Report, will help focus on results and commit the EU member states to invest more responsibly into the areas that will have the strongest effect on the economic growth of separate member states and the entire Community.

The meeting has discussed a necessity to apply the principle of proportionality in the control of the use of the EU funds, which is closely connected to reduction of the administrative burden of managing the EU funds. It has been emphasized that excessive control can diminish attraction of the EU funds, which poses a risk for the potential of these funds and their contribution to the implementation of the EU 2020 targets.
